Dear Parents, Welcome to our school, and to my classroom! I am delighted to have you as part of our school family, and look forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with your children. I hope you will take time to consistently visit in our classroom and take part in all the new discoveries your children are making. At the beginning of each year, I like to stress the importance of open communication between our school and you, our parents, and highlight our methods of keeping you informed about your child’s experiences with us. There is a communication folder in your child's cubby in the classroom. This is where you will find any reports, notes and information to go home. If your child has gotten a "boo-boo", or exhibited unusual behavior, a written report will be in this folder as well. I will also record periodic anecdotal observations to share with you, such as an activity your child really enjoyed, or something new they tried. Please be sure to check this folder every day. You can leave notes, questions and comments for me as well, and I will check the folder on a daily basis. On the parent bulletin board I post our yearly curriculum, monthly activity calendar and weekly lesson plans. These will keep you informed of the educational activities and special events planned specifically for our class, as well as school-wide events and activities. I will also send home a copy of the monthly activity calendar listing any special items needed. I recommend posting it on the refrigerator and having your child check it daily to be sure they have everything they need to enjoy an activity packed day at school! Twice a year I will complete and send home skill checklists for all of the children, outlining their progress in our class. Throughout the year, your child's development is carefully observed in the areas of language, motor skills, self-help, cognitive and social skills, and then recorded on the skills checklist. These are sent home in December and June, and conferences can be scheduled to review them if you wish. All of these written methods of communication allow me to share valuable information without having to divert my attention from the children. I appreciate your understanding that I can not engage in lengthy personal conversations while in the classroom. This is in the best interests of the children, will maintain confidentiality, and make for a smoother day for everyone. If leaving me a note in your child's folder is not sufficient, please feel free to email me, or to schedule a conference if you feel a more in depth discussion is needed. I am also available to meet with you if you have more general questions about our programs and curriculum, your child’s development, behavioral issues, or anything else that I can help you with. At our school, we are seriously committed to the necessary partnership between parents and teachers, and welcome your questions and input at all times. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation...remember, we work best when we work together! Sincerely, _______________________ (your name) |
